Podcasting is not easy, as much as some “coaches” might lead you on. Yes, you can limit the post-production, automate or hire someone, but it’s a time consuming and an effort you want to tackle at some level of consistency.
I’m not saying you need to keep up a perfect schedule, but yet, like so many things it can lose it’s spark or life happens.
Letting a show go
Here is just one example of one of the shows here..
In January of last year, I spent 60 minutes thinking of what I want to talk about on the weekly “WooBits” Nothing came to me. I had changed the format of that particular show several times. I kept thinking, it has to stay. Maybe it’s because of the name, WooBits. Or perhaps the “best idea” was yet to come.
Now we all have had moments. Maybe it’s classic writer’s block. Or perhaps, an idea of a product that, well, just never really played out to the end. Or that next website that sounded so much better before falling asleep last night.
Whatever the case, it was time for me to let it go.
I’ve done that with over 8 podcasts.
Now back to letting that podcasts. Over the years I have done 8 podcasts. Obviously seven of those no longer exist for various reasons. My shortest was 5 episodes. My longest, aside from this podcast, had close to 300 episodes.
Some just wore themselves out. Others wore me out. And of course, a small percent of them were just a bad idea.
Whatever the case, I knew when it was time to stop the show. And in turn, let it go.
In fact that has likely been the reason I have survived freelancing and running our own businesses close to the last four decades.
A membership site that took 9 months to build and one month to shut down.
A successful marketing business that had run its course.
An online video tutorial membership site that had me swearing at outdated materials.
The list goes on.
In closing, no, I am not suggesting you give up on your podcast. In fact if it’s possible to send positive vibes for continued success through this post, you got them.
All I’m saying is you do have permission to let it go. You gave it a go and that’s more than a lot of people have.
