I have never done a seasonal podcast.
When I first started podcasting I did a bit of research, and have seen conversation around it. Some podcasters find that it gives them a vanity number to share as you can make them as long or as short as you want. But overall, there are good reasons most do this.
Seasons let you build in nice breaks. As with a lot of podcasters, it isn’t your main gig. It’s something you do on the side, or use as a branding tool. The chance to give yourself time off between seasons is not quite so daunting and can be timed to work with you job or business.
Here are some ideas if you have been thinking about it or considering a change
Creating themed seasons. This will also give you the leeway to create topical seasons. For each season it could be themed around the topic, your guests talents, or other creative ways that it will work for you.
Seasonal shows. Similar to the themed seasons, you could break it up into shows. Again, putting on that creative hat and finding unique ways to present your podcast, seasonal shows could be exactly what you are looking for.
A shorter life podcast. There is nothing wrong with planning a podcast with an ending. There would be several reasons you would do something like this. It could also help you in pre-marketing. For example, let’s say you do a podcast about podcasting. You break it up into three seasons over 12 months. Season one, all tech. Season two, managing your schedule. Season three, marketing your podcast. Or something like that.
The point is, adding seasons to your podcast might just give you that creative edge to do something a little different, or that fits your time and resources.
And a final note. The big thing about podcasts that you will hear over and over again is consistency. Yes, it’s a big factor to the success of your podcast, but at the same time you need to focus on your goals. And if breaking it into seasons works for you, then podcast away.
