There are different approaches to having guests. Interview style. Panel discussions. Conversational. The list goes on.
Now if you are doing a podcast that primarily brings in big names, or people who frequent as guests on podcasts, well, there is no issue on the comfort level.
But like us, we invite a lot of people who have never been on a podcast before. And to put it lightly, yes, they are nervous. One thing I hear a lot of them distress over is wondering if they have enough to talk about. Trust me, we all do :)
So what’s the solution?
First, I rest assure them that I will edit out pauses and small mistakes that may happen. I even give them the chance to start over on a question or comment if needed.
But more importantly…
I am lucky to have almost two dozen amazing hosts on our shows. And one thing they are all good at. Having that organic conversation with someone and zeroing in on what excites them.
You can hear it in their voice.
You can see their eyes light up.
Find the passion, find that great story and elaborate on that. From there they will be more relaxed, and surprise themselves when 30, 45 or 60 minutes have passed.
