In a post that Matt Mullenweg, cofounder of WordPress, wrote on his blog caught my eye. He shared with us some of his older business cards. It was fun to see them and it made me wish just a little bit that I would have saved my numerous ones over the years. But never did
When I first needed business cards, it was a time when they were handed out and exchanged, fast and furious, they were expensive and quality mattered. In fact I remember almost crying as I threw out hundreds of cards of my own that had become obsolete. I agonized, as a designer, to ever hand out one with a cross out email or a sticker over it.
But that’s all gone these days, in most cases.
The fact is, if you are in any kind of business, you should always have cards ready to hand out. They are fairly cheap these days and you can get smaller quantities. And if you need to reprint because of a change, that won’t hit the budget like the old days.
There are people that still use them, and more importantly, prefer to get them. Handing a business card over is still the quickest way to share contact info.
So don’t ignore them because you think all the cool kids do. Instead, have them just in case.
side note: the last time I printed business cards was in June of this year. Changes happen and time to reprint.
