My content, my thoughts, my digital home

Throughout my life I have chosen to live my life in a few different ways.

Optimism

Yes, I may even be more than the glass half full. It has been this way for me in both business and personal life. I prefer to stay positive, or at least edge towards that balance, even when things go south.

Empathy

There are so many times I put myself in the shoes of others. Sometimes it is close to an impossible task, but at least I have tried. We tend to assume we know how anyone feels, but that isn’t possible. On the other hand, there are the times that I have been there, done that. We just need to remember those times.

Listening

In today’s world there is too much noise. So many are in the “me” culture and need to constantly voice themselves everywhere. I prefer to listen. Learn. Think. And in a lot of cases, not say anything when I don’t have something worthwhile to say. I know that every voice is important, but yet where do we draw the line. Or maybe that’s why I listen.

Be Kind

Yeah, this may be drifting into the golden rules. But kindness pays out in so many ways. I don’t mean kissing up. I mean being genuinely kind and giving others a sense of well being. Complimenting on something small. Smiling. Being polite. You never know what another person is going through, and you may just bring a little moment of joy to their lives.

Don’t Sweat the Small Things

Easier said then done. We all have major hurdles in life. But when it comes to those small nagging things, I try to let it go and move on. It often makes my life and others much more enjoyable.

Authenticity

It’s not really be transparent, but just being myself.

Laughter/Sense of Humor

There is nothing that can make one feel better than a good laugh. And I have made it to where I am today by keeping a good sense of humor. I have no problem laughing at myself. And it makes me happier when others are laughing too.

I’m sure there are others that I’m not thinking of, but for now, this is good.

Hi Bob, thanks for sharing your list. This type of post always inspires me in two ways. First, It gives me a better appreciation for the writer, lets me see something about them that maybe I didn’t know before. I don’t know you well, but nothing on your list surprises me. I would have guessed that those values guided your actions, based on the little bit I’ve seen of you.

Second, it gives me a chance to reflect on my own life and values. Do I value the same things? More importantly, am I living those values?

I hope you and your family are well and anticipating a happy holiday season.

    All the best,
    Mike

Hey Mark, thank you for this great comment, made my day. And yes, it also helps me to revisit these values and make sure I am sticking to them. The fact that you mentioned the little we have interacted or you have seen me, it all aligns, was great to hear.

As with anything, there are slips occasionally and one has to pause. Happy to hear that it gave you some food for thought.

And appreciate the holiday wishes. Here is to your family also having a happy holiday seasons. Cheers, and see you on the interwebs in the New Year!
