Today is my birthday.
It will be low-key like most of my other birthdays. Judy and I will enjoy a homemade pizza and watch a very old movie, probably a film noir. For me, that is just about the best way is to celebrate 61 years on this crazy planet.
I cannot tell you what my 8th birthday was like. Must have been fairly ordinary because I don’t remember it. But the digital space is a good marker for our business and life milestones. in May 2010, I wrote the very first post here on this site, on the launch of BobWP.
It’s kind of funny because it didn’t occur to me until I got my first anniversary congratulations on LinkedIn. I paused for a brief moment, trying to recall “position” I had listed there that the congrats were referring to. Ha!
Is WordPress the Answer to All Our Prayers?
Where did that come from? Well, that was the title of my first post here. To be honest, I started with WordPress a bit before in 2007. But this is when the brand BobWP officially came to be.
I’ve written the branding here. I have shared my story on a lot of podcasts. So I won’t be reflecting on that. But as I move along in the world of WordPress, and have no plans of leaving anytime soon, the BobWP brand will be around for a bit.
And as I celebrate a bit over six decades of life, well, I naturally turn to thoughts of how the tech space stereotypes people in my demographic. And there are some opinion posts that are bubbling up inside of me, on the verge of spilling out. I imagine you will see a few of these over the next few months.
What Have I Learned as BobWP?
We have been in business for ourselves since 1993. Prior to that, I did some design freelancing and of course, after that, we operated Cat’s Eye Group, our design and copywriting business. Over the years, the ups and downs have been numerous and varied.
But I will say that I have learned a lot about the WordPress community. And like any community, there are good and not-so-good elements. It’s been interesting. I have had the chance to build friendships and have gotten to know a lot of cool people from around the world. That is surely one of the highlights of these 8 years.
So as we move into future, who knows what holds for you, myself, and heck even WordPress. But I thank all my friends and, yes, you readers and listeners for all your past support.
