Auto-Apply Coupons to the Cart Using a Custom URL in WooCommerce

man-with-smartphone-and-computer

There is nothing better than making it easy for your WooCommerce store customers. That is our main goal in all the processes we create for them to make a purchase. And small things, like giving them a URL to a product that automatically applies the discount to their cart, is one of those ways.

URL Coupons for WooCommerce Store Products

This is actually one of the features of the WooCommerce Advanced Coupons plugin, but it’s one I hear so many people asking about, it was worthy of a separate post.

What is great about this feature is that it can be applied to any of the coupons you generate using this plugin. You will start with some basic settings that are mostly optional. There are a couple of redirects that you can set, the first being after the coupon has been applied. By default it will send them to the cart.

Also, you can redirect them to a specific page if the URL is invalid. This gives you the chance to create a landing page that might offer some incentive to them rather than causing them to be frustrated by an expired coupon link.

You might want to customize your messages as well.

With this plugin, you will have several features when creating coupons, but for this post I have only the Products and URL module active.

What I want to create is a discount for one specific product. This will be sent out to my special customers, giving them $40 off a microphone.

First I add the discount.

Then I add the product.

After publishing, you will see that it has created a coupon URL for me. I am not going to redirect this to any special page, as by default it will take the customer directly to the cart with the item added and discounted. But I did add a custom success message.

Now if I use the URL, I am taken to the cart page with my custom message, the product in the cart and the discount automatically applied.

This is not only a great way to give special customers a discount, but a time-saver as well. You can learn more about the plugin on our post here or head over and get yourself a copy so you can start upping your game when it comes to coupons on your WooCommerce store.
