Have you ever installed a theme, plugin or widget that asks for a post, page or category ID? Over the years I have come across this tons of times. It might be a setting to exclude a category from your blog archive. Or to choose a specific page or post. In most cases, I have found that people who have started using WordPress, and even some who have used it for quite sometime, don’t know of any easy way to find that little bugger.
Now there are some plugins that will actually add a column with post and page ID’s where they are listed in your admin. But really, do you want to add a plugin for something you may only need, rarely?
It’s not as hard as you might think to find it. Simply scroll over the post or page name you want the number of and you will see at the bottom of your browser window a URL.
This URL will include the ID, which in this instance is 62. Now it could be one digit, two digits, or several. It really depends on several factors and nothing to worry about on your end of things.
Now if you want to find a category ID, go into your categories, and do the same thing, scroll over that specific category. In this instance I am seeing that the category Themes has the ID of 3.
So the next time you need that ID, make it easy on yourself, grab your glasses if needed, and find that golden number.
