Depending on who you are and what you do, this word already may have become a part of your everyday life. Or perhaps you have visited the incoming changes to WordPress off and on. Others of you may have looked at it, thought about it and shrugged.
Or you might be someone who uses so many tools to run your business that you will deal with it when it happens.
In this case, the people who fall into the latter category might have a surprise in store.
What is Gutenberg for WordPress?
As some have briefly but elegantly stated:
The Gutenberg WordPress editor is a new page builder designed to integrate with WordPress core.
Of course, that is a general statement. And once you dive into it you will discover exactly what can be expected when it comes out in WordPress 5.0 later this year. I am not here to write the 335,349th post on it (disclaimer: I just made up that number). Instead I wanted to share two resources with you from friends of mine.
Are You a DIYer?
My friend Joe Casabona has put together a great course called An Introduction to Gutenberg. Joe has been in the education space for quite some time and has a heart for teaching. And if you find your time is precious, well, instead of going down the Google rabbithole to get a basic understanding of this new editor, a sequential and well-designed course might be just what you need. I’m not going to get into the details of the course as you can more learn about it here by following the link. But trust me. If you are in the dark about Gutenberg, or have been reluctant to read one word about it, this course will give you the perfect start on your adaptation to this new way of WordPressing.
Do You Just Want Someone Tell You If Your Site is Going to Blow Up?
As with any change in WordPress this is often a fear. Sometimes you don’t worry. You think all we be okay. And then, bam, it happens. So to alleviate your worries, another good friend of mine, Bud Kraus is offering a free evaluation of your site to see if it will work seamlessly with Gutenberg. What better peace of mind then letting someone take a copy of your site and do the testing for you? He will then let you know about any issues that he finds and possible solutions. Then you can choose what you might need to do, but consider having Bud help you further to ensure that your site will survive. Of course he could very well come back with a report of a clean bill of health and you will be able to breathe easily. Do check it out here.
Yeah, You Can Just Google Gutenberg
Now I am aware there are tons of resources, training and services out there around Gutenberg. But I know these two personally, and wanted to share with you how they can help you.
And as much as I would have liked to curate some excellent posts out there, to be honest, I didn’t know where to begin. So I’ll leave that task with you and Google. And seriously, one of these two resources would really be the best place to start.
Added note: I have purposely closed comments to this post only because of the fact that it would have been filled with links to posts and other Gutenberg-related content that could only lead you to something that might confuse you even more.
