I get it. Or at least I see what is trying to be said here.
I think it started with Seth Godin saying this. I may be wrong historically, but nevertheless, it was considered ominous.
Yes, Podcasting is the New Blogging
I will start optimistically here. You could say that it’s a fair point of view. In fact, any new medium may justify this statement.
Think back a decade or so when all you heard was, every business needs a blog. Fast forward, now its every business needs a podcast. Neither of these statements have been true or are true today. Saying every business needs one. So many variables. And, well, so many businesses.
Let’s take it a step further. Or say let’s step back. Going to the original statement and the fact that most people who read it may interpret is as “podcasts are replacing blogs”.
That is what I disagree with.
No, Podcasting is Not Replacing Blogging
There are numerous reasons I could list here to defend this statement. But I’m going to leave it at one.
Not everyone is comfortable or wants to write blog posts.
Not everyone is comfortable or wants to get behind a microphone.
Sure, we need to go outside our comfort zones and explore new ways of doing things.
But this takes me back many years ago when I was teaching blogging classes. Someone told me her coach demanded she start a blog for her business. This kept her up nights worrying about what to write. In fact, she said thinking about it brought anxiety and tears.
That’s not right.
I told here, let it go. There are lots of mediums that you can get your message out there. Find what works.
And that is my advice to you. But if you are starting a podcast, or have started on, good on you.
