When you run a membership site, or combine your online store with a membership site, often the membership plugin gives you total control over the pages that members only can access. But as we all know it’s also important to make those very special pages easy to access for your members. And adding them to the menu can make it available no matter where they are on your site. But controlling what shows and not shows isn’t often a feature you find in membership plugins.
The If Menu Plugin
Remember when I’ve talked about conditional logic before? Well, once again it comes to the rescue.
For an example, let’s say you have created this one page that is chock full of member bonuses. Something you know that they will use a lot but you don’t want to clutter up your navigation menu with it for non-members. Once you have installed the free If Menu plugin, just add that page to your menu, check the conditional logic option, and set it up using the role your members are assigned to.
You will be able to show or hide using any of the roles available as well as page types and have it appear based on mobile view or not. If you want it to show for anyone logged in, you could do this by choosing User is Logged In or perhaps it’s only available to Gold Members. Also, if you need to create a custom user role, then you can use a plugin like User Role Editor to create it.
If I was to choose User is Logged in, if I log out and go to the site you will see that the page is not showing up in the menu.
But once I login, and return to the site, now it’s available.
This is only one example on how this could be used, but with some thought and creativity you could create special menu items specific to any role you have as a default or have defined yourself. And of course, you will find this free plugin, If Menu, over on WordPress.org.
