In today’s Neighborhood episode, I invited the dynamic husband-and-wife team of WordPress, Topher and Cate DeRosia. Both are active in the WordPress space, work at home, each having their own things going on. At the same time their relationship contributes so much to their success and the decisions they make in their own client work. It was fascinating to get the scoop on Topher and Cate: past, present and future.
We started with what both of them are currently doing in the WordPress space. I asked each of them how WordPress has changed their lives, and was it as a couple or individually.
It was interesting to me that they don’t work on projects together— and the reason behind that. This led to confession time with me asking them what pet peeve they had about each other’s working style.
I wanted to know what new things they have learned from each other. (I knew that they were approaching their 20th wedding anniversary and they would likely have some nuggets to share.)
I also learned about their two daughters and their interest in WordPress, which led us to the topic of attending WordCamps, as a family and as a couple. Each has a different approach when attending WordCamps. And I dropped a hint that I will be inviting both of their daughters on a future episode.
Lastly, I asked if they have a dream business they have thought about starting together or a dream job of some kind. Let’s just say that they told all.
It was such a fun conversation and so much of what they talked about mirrored Judy and I and our path. I imagine if the four of us ever got together, we would have quite the time.
