WooCommerce 4.0 Adds the WooCommerce Admin to Core

The second update of the year is expected in March. WooCommerce 4.0 is considered a major release, although it’s not quite as impactful as 3.0.

WooCommerce Admin Interface Comes to Core

If you have been keeping track, or even using the WooCommerce Admin interface, 4.0 will be brining in into core. As WooCommerce states:

This is the first step on our journey to a modern, JavaScript-driven commerce experience for merchants

The improvements with this inclusion are:

  • New dashboard
  • New and improved reports
  • Improved notification experience
  • New store management tools

The wc-admin v0.7.0 was first released in February of 2019. Noted as the new feature plugin, it has been available to add to your WooCommerce site since then and is currently installed on over 900K sites. This shows that Woo has taken the time to get things worked out before slipping it into core.

Breaking Changes

There are only a small number of breaking changes we can expect in 4.0. One that was pointed out was an upgrade to the Action Scheduler library. From their notes it will reduce the load on the WordPress database tables.

You can follow along here or on WooCommerce to learn more about any other noted updates. The beta version of 4.0 is expected in early February.
