During Web Week, we are turning to eCommerce and interviewing six experts. Today we chat with Cody Landefeld co-founder of Mode Effect.
Tell our readers a little bit about yourself.
I’m Cody Landefeld and I co-founded Mode Effect with my wife Raquel. We help to build WooCommerce and WordPress solutions for enterprise companies, technology innovators & e-commerce store owners.
What was the coolest thing you saw happen in the eCommerce space in 2016?
Seeing the growth of WooCommerce has been staggering. Both from a user adoption level and from the support Automattic has given to grow the platform. Truly amazing!
Share with our readers an eCommerce site you worked on or found particularly interesting this past year.
Now time to look to the future. Tell us your prediction for what we might see coming to eCommerce in 2017?
I see WooCommerce finding a true niche for store owners of a certain variety. I also see eCommerce as a whole continuing to release convenient features that exist in brick and mortar stores. One example is the convenience of wearable and mobile purchasing. Before long eCommerce stores will not only recognize customers with their thumbprint and facial recognition but will also allow purchases using the same method.
Give us your one best tip for anyone who is considering starting their first online store.
Know your audience. Know not only what your audience needs but how they’d like to purchase. There’s so much competition for online stores so the best thing to start with is a good working knowledge of whom you’re trying to serve.
Lastly, tell us what was your favorite place to shop online for the holidays and why.
Amazon of course! It’s based on convenience really. Amazon sells nearly every consumer product we’d need at around the lowest price and ships it to our home quickly so it’s a no-brainer.
