During Web Week, we are turning to eCommerce and interviewing six experts. Today we chat with Brent Shepherd from Prospress.
Tell our readers a little bit about yourself.
Born to code. Lead developer on WooCommerce Subscriptions, one of the most popular extensions in the official WooCommerce.com marketplace. Former WordCamp co-organiser and current WooCommerce San Francisco meetup co-organiser. Founder of Prospress.
What was the coolest thing you saw happen in the eCommerce space in 2016?
It was a big year for eCommerce! Stripe Radar, Apple Pay in Safari and Amazon opening up the Alexa API were all very cool launches.
Share with our readers an eCommerce site you worked on or found particularly interesting this past year.
Now time to look to the future. Tell us your prediction for what we might see coming to eCommerce in 2017?
Custom database tables for WooCommerce order data, woot! These custom tables will help WooCommerce become significantly faster for all stores, and provide assurance that the most successful stores can grow to any size with WooCommerce.
Oh, and I also predict a Robot Ninja invasion… wait and see what that is, but I’ll say it’s a Prospress production.
Give us your one best tip for anyone who is considering starting their first online store.
Launch fast and think of it as a journey. Starting the store is just the very beginning, every day after that will require additional steps to grow it into something great.
Lastly, tell us what was your favorite place to shop online for the holidays and why.
I’m very sad to say it’s Amazon. I hope one day I can shop entirely on WooCommerce powered stores for all my holiday shopping. But we have a lot of work to do to make product discovery, shipping and mobile friendliness as convenient for WooCommerce stores as it is on Amazon.
