When you start up your online store, it’s not always possible to dive into the higher priced hosting, you know, the package that will handle your needs as your store grows. Sometimes it’s better to take baby steps.
iThemes has been in the WordPress arena for some time and I see them as leaders at the intersection of WordPress and the business space. We started dabbling with WordPress ourselves in 2007. Shortly after that, we created our first WordPress site for our marketing business. That was a theme from iThemes. In fact, with my newly developed design skills, it was our very first professionally designed site.
In July of this year, iThemes announced their first-time venture into hosting. With their experience and the community they have built and nurtured over the years, it was a logical step. We have used various products of theirs over the last decade and have always been more than happy with them all—and their support.
iThemes Hosting – A Great Place to Start up Your Online Store
There are several things that come to mind that make iThemes WordPress hosting stand out.
With Sync, which you get with your hosting, you will be able to:
- Update with one-clicks
- Manage your themes and plugins
- Monitor site uptimes and create website reports
- Run remote backups and database optimizations
- View stats and enable two-factor authentification
Your hosting includes an SSL, which is critical these days for web security.
By using Sync, you are able to do a lot of things in the dashboard that you would normally do in your WordPress admin, including viewing posts and comments.
A Look at Your Sync Dashboard
You will find your hosting in your iThemes Sync panel. If we click on it, it gives us the option to start our first site.
Before I click on that, you will notice the button in the top right corner that says Check iThemes hosting status. If I click on it, I get this page:
What I find interesting about this is how accessible it is. If your site is down, you can simply log in here and see if it’s your hosting or something else. This saves you the time of contacting support or searching elsewhere for the answer to your question.
Now, when you go back to installing your first site, the one-click gets you on your way.
It only took 5 minutes to complete my install. Since I don’t have a domain hooked up to it, it gives me a temporary URL, everything I need to know about the install, and the option to delete the install. You will also note that a Backup Buddy Migration file is ready for you to easily download at any time.
Managing Your Site in iThemes Sync
Of course you can go into your dashboard, but iThemes Sync allows you to do a lot on your Sync dashboard without having to log into your admin.
The following screenshots don’t have a lot of content or info because the site was just installed, but it will give you an idea of what you can expect.
For each site you have hosted or synced, you have all of these options, starting with the overview. You can drag and drop any of the modules on the page. You can also toggle any of these to view further information.
Here you can easily activate, deactivate, delete or update any plugins.
BackupBuddy & Security
I did not include BackupBuddy or Security in these shots as I don’t have those specific iThemes plugins installed. If you are missing those parts for any site, I suggest you check those particular plugins out.
You can log in from this dashboard, editing other users, and deleting them as well.
You can keep track of all update logs here.
Similar options as your plugins.
Manage and Create Posts and Pages
There are shortcuts to add a new post or page, and edit and view them as well. You can delete post revisions here and duplicate a post or page.
If you are dealing with a few sites and comments on all of them, it’s nice that you can approve, mark as spam or trash any comments easily from here.
You can hook up to your site’s Google Analytics via Sync.
And if you use Google Search Console, which I suggest you do, you can add the account here to pull your data in for viewing.
You can create and send a tweet from the site here. If you don’t have something else in place for scheduling shares, or even if you do, this is nice to have as you might think of a share you need to do while in your Sync dashboard.
This is incredibly handy for cleaning up a site in a single click.
Here are all the basic settings from you dashboard nicely displayed in the Sync dashboard so you can easily make changes here as well.
If you are looking to get your online store up and running, often your resources are limited. With iThemes hosting you get all you need to optimize that start-up online shop— and can adjust your hosting needs as your store grows.
